Saint Thomas Aquinas was named Tommaso d’Aquino when he was born in Roccasecca Kingdom in Sicily. He was a Dominican friar. Thomas Aquinas is a prominent Catholic theologian and philosopher. St. Thomas attempted to leave his family when he was nineteen years old and joined Dominicans. His mother was not happy with his decision and demanded that his brothers capture him and place him in Rocca-Secca, to stop him from adjusting to Dominican lifestyles. He was determined to go with them despite the opposition of his family. His brothers tried everything to keep him from joining them. They even hired an prostitute to seduce his brother, but she was scared away by a fire iron. Two angels appeared in his bedroom and spoke to him, strengthening his resolve to remain celibate. St. Thomas managed to escape the night through his window two years later. He visited Rome, Naples, then Rome to meet Master General of Dominican order. He went on to Paris to continue his education with Albert The Great later in the year. His writings were the best contribution to Christianity. They had so many different messages. These writings demonstrated harmony, persistence of faith and unity. Summa theologiae Disputed Queries on Truth, and Summa Contra gentiles, two of his most recognizable masterpieces, are Summa theologiae. His influence was felt for many years in Roman Catholic doctrine. He was elected the official philosopher to the church in 1917. Thomas Aquinas, a catholic student and university patron, was made in 1880. January 28th is dedicated to his life and legacy. Because Thomas questioned the Resurrection, he was declared a saint. He was skeptical that the Resurrection of Jesus actually took place and demanded proof of Christ’s wounds and scars. He was shown the wounds by Jesus and St. Thomas was the first to recognize Jesus’ divinity. He was killed on March 7, 1274. The pope John XXII canonized St. Thomas on July 18, 2013 in Avignon. St. Thomas may have prayed many things, but he focused on Mary and wisdom. In his prayer, he said: “Mary. Mother. Fair love and fear. Knowledge and holy hope. Many, even those with limited talents, have made amazing progress in learning. I chose you to be my guardian and protector …,. I ask you to give me, through Your intercession, the graces of the Holy Ghost. It will enable me to grasp with the mind, keep in my memory, and express through my words and life all that shall honor you and your Son. He says, “Amen.” This prayer is to Mary. He’s asking her for her assistance during his studies.

Saint Thomas Aquinas, one of the most inspiring and influential saints of all times, will be remembered for his legacy and work.
